Next summer, when you get ready to wheel your grill out of storage and fire up some burgers, one of the first things you will probably want to do is clean the grill racks. For years, savvy outdoor chefs have used wire brushes to clean burnt on food residue, but that may not be as safe as you think.
In this video, we see how wire bristles can fall off the brush and then contaminate your food. These bristles can cause serious, even life threatening, injuries if ingested. As you plan for next summer, watch this video to find out what kind of danger these can pose.
While wire brushes are the go to tool for outdoor cooking, as this video explains, they can pose serious health risks.
So, how do you get your grill clean before throwing burgers and ribs on it? Try using a balled up wad of aluminum foil, or if you plan ahead, you can fire up the grill and let the residues of pool parties past simply burn off.
Once you have your grill cleaned and ready for some summer fun, you are going to need a really awesome dish to inaugurate the season. Check out this amazing recipe for Meatball Onion Bombs. “What?” you say, “No way, that sounds awesome!” Well, you should taste them!
To make meatball onion bombs you will need 2 yellow onions, 1 lb. ground beef, 1/4 cup onions, diced, 1/4 cup parsley, chopped, 1/4 cup mushrooms, chopped, 1 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1 Tbsp. spicy ketchup, 1 tsp. soy sauce, 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs, 1 pack of bacon, and 1 bottle of BBQ sauce.
Before you start, fire up your grill and preheat to around 450 degrees, covered. Begin by cutting off the tops and bottoms of the onions and remove the exterior skin. Cut the onion in half and peel the layers apart, keeping the biggest layers to stuff with meat.
etting the onion layers aside, mix the ground beef, diced onion, parsley, mushroom, brown sugar, condiments, and bread crumbs in a large mixing bowl by hand.
Place a handful of the meatloaf mixture inside two of the onion layer pieces.
Wrap the onion meatballs in bacon, using three slices per ball. Secure the bacon with toothpicks to keep it from unraveling during cooking.
Cook for 40 minutes. Then cover the balls in BBQ sauce and bake for an additional 5 minutes. The result will be the perfect addition to your summer party: a bacon meatball onion bomb that will make you the toast of any backyard get together or tailgate party.
And since you will need a side dish to go with them, here’s a great crock pot recipe for baked beans:
You will need three cups of dried navy beans soaked overnight, one and a half cup ketchup (or catsup), one and a half cup water, one cup brown sugar,a quarter cup molasses, one large white onion finely chopped, one tablespoon dried mustard one tablespoon salt, and six slices of bacon cut into one inch pieces.
First, drain the soaking beans and place them into the cooker, add the rest of the ingredients and stir until mixed thoroughly. Cover and cook on low for eight to ten hours. Can you believe how easy that was?
These recipe will set the bar higher than ever for outdoor entertaining and pool parties. Of course it may raise your cholesterol levels significantly, but hey, isn’t that what grilled meats are all about?
